Trimming trees isn't as easy as just grabbing a saw and cutting off a branch. You need to make sure that it's done properly, both for you and for the tree.
Before you even start, you need to make sure that you are doing everything you can to assure your safety. One of the things you need to do is make sure that you know where the electric lines are. Being too close to the power lines means that your tools may touch the lines, causing you to receive a dangerous shock. Cut branches may also fall on the lines, causing power outages. If you trim a tree and the branch falls on the power lines, you may be liable for the repair costs. Being safe also means making sure that your ladder is sturdy and can support your weight.
Make Sure You Have the Right Tools
In any job, the right tools make your job much easier, including trimming your trees. What tools you need depends on how much trimming you are going to do. For example, if you want to cut down a tree altogether, you may want to go to a tool rental company to see if you can rent something called a tree shear. This tool can be put on a small tractor and used to cut down the tree. Part of the tool will hold on to the tree while a saw blade makes a horizontal cut in the tree.
Though expensive to buy for a one-time job, a tree shear could be purchased if you plan on doing extensive clearing and removal for a long time to come.
If you just want to trim a branch, you may want to get something like tree loppers. These tools are on a long pole. You can get the blade of the tool up by the branch, and then pull a cord by the handle, which closes the lopper and cuts off the branch. Using tree loppers like that means that you don't have to get up on a ladder with a sharp tool. You can do all the cutting work from the ground, which is easier and safer for you.
Trees can increase your property value. They shade your house during the summer and help to keep your cooling bills down. However, your trees may need to have some work done to make sure that they are healthy and that they won't fall over on your house or your car. Having the right tools makes taking care of your trees much easier and safer.Share
